Courses

Courses are how you deliver partner training and onboarding in PartnerPortal. A course is an ordered set of lessons that partners work through and mark complete, with a progress bar and course completion tracking. Courses are built on the same content and access system as the Resource Center, so if you know Resources, Courses will feel familiar — the main additions are lesson ordering, a dedicated course player, and completion tracking.

There are two building blocks:

  • Courses organize your training and control access. A course is a container of lessons.
  • Lessons are the content itself — each lesson is a post, exactly like a resource.

Partners open a course and move through its lessons in order, marking each one complete as they go.

Every lesson is a post made up of:

  • Title — the headline shown on the lesson card and in the course player.
  • Excerpt — a short summary used on cards. If blank, PartnerPortal derives one from the body.
  • Featured image — an optional image shown on the card and at the top of the lesson.
  • Body — the main content, written in the rich-text editor (supports images, video, and in-app links).
  • Attachments — optional downloadable files (PDFs, videos, slide decks, and more).
  • Course — one or more courses the lesson belongs to.

Access is controlled at the course level using partner groups, the same way it works for resource categories:

  • Assign one or more partner groups to a course, and every partner in those groups can see the course and all of its lessons.
  • A partner who isn’t in any group assigned to a course won’t see that course.

So the primary way you manage who sees which training is: create a course, add lessons to it, then assign the right partner groups.

Courses add progress tracking on top of the content:

  • Partners mark each lesson complete (or incomplete) as they work through the course.
  • Each course shows a progress bar (for example, “3 of 5 lessons complete”).
  • When a partner completes every lesson, the course is recorded as completed for them.

There are two ways into Courses:

  • Courses — the browse/view experience partners and you see: each course with its lessons, and the course player for working through them.
  • Manage — an admin-only screen where you add and organize courses, add lessons, and set the display settings. Only users with permission to manage courses can reach it.

Setting up training is three steps: create a course, add lessons to it, and grant partners access.

  1. Go to Courses → Manage and create a course.

  2. Add lessons to the course and put them in order.

  3. Assign partner groups to the course so the right partners can see it.

The Manage Courses screen listing courses

Courses live on the Manage screen. From there you can create courses, control their access, order them, and delete them.

The course edit screen with name, description, lessons, and partner groups

  1. Go to Courses → Manage and select Add Course (or open an existing course to edit it).

  2. Give the course a name and an optional description. The description is the blurb partners see on the course.

  3. Save the course. Once saved, you can add lessons to it and assign partner groups.

Assigning partner groups to a course is what grants partners access to it and all of its lessons.

  1. Open the course from Manage.

  2. In the Partner Groups section, add the partner groups that should have access.

  3. Save. Partners in those groups can now see the course; removing a group removes that access.

There is no per-partner sharing toggle — access always flows through partner groups. To make a course visible to just one partner, create a partner group that contains only that partner and assign it to the course.

  1. Create a partner group with only that partner in it.

  2. Open the course and assign that group to it.

The partner now sees the course, and no one outside the group does.

Pin a course to keep it near the top of the browse view, and set a pin order to control where pinned courses sit relative to each other.

Open the course from Manage and use the delete action, then confirm. Deleting a course can’t be undone. Deleting a course doesn’t delete lessons that also live in other courses or categories.

The add/edit lesson screen with title, body editor, featured image, and attachments

  1. Go to Courses → Manage and select Add Lesson. (Starting from a course pre-selects it.)

  2. Enter a Title and, optionally, an Excerpt.

  3. Add a Featured Image (optional).

  4. Write the Body in the editor. See Add rich content to the body.

  5. Add any Attachments (optional). See Add attachments.

  6. Choose the course the lesson belongs to, then Save.

The edit screen includes a live Full Page | Card preview so you can see how the lesson will appear before you save.

The body uses the same rich-text editor as announcements and resources. Beyond text formatting, you can:

  • Insert images — use the image button in the toolbar (or Insert → Image) to upload an image into the body; PartnerPortal hosts it for you.
  • Embed a video — use Insert → Media and paste a share URL (for example, YouTube or Vimeo) to embed a player inline. Video is a natural fit for lessons.
  • Add in-app links — use Insert → In-App Link to link to another screen inside the portal (enter a path that starts with /, like /leads/register). For outside websites, use the regular Insert → Link.

Attachments are downloadable files that sit alongside the lesson body — PDFs, videos, slide decks, and more. Add them from the attachments section on the edit screen; partners download or open each attachment from within the lesson.

Lessons play in order inside the course. On the course’s edit screen, use the lesson list to pin and rank lessons so they appear in the sequence you want. Lesson order is per-course — the same lesson can sit in a different position in a different course.

  • Edit a lesson from the course or the Manage screen; saving keeps you on the page.
  • Delete a lesson from its edit screen (confirm when prompted). Deleting removes it and its attachments and can’t be undone.

The course player with the lesson sidebar, progress bar, and lesson content

When a partner opens a course, they land on the course player:

  • A progress bar shows how far they are through the course.
  • A lesson sidebar lists every lesson, numbered, with a check on the ones they’ve completed.
  • The selected lesson renders in the main area, with its body, embedded media, and attachments.
  • Previous / Next move between lessons, and a Mark complete / Mark incomplete control updates their progress.
  • When every lesson is complete, the course shows a Completed badge.

Partners can share a link to a specific lesson — the course player keeps the current lesson in the URL — and jumping back into a course returns them to where they were.

Course and lesson card display settings on the Manage screen

Display settings on the Manage screen control how course and lesson cards appear when partners browse:

  • Grid Columns — how many cards per row (2, 3, or 4).
  • Show Featured Image — show or hide the featured image on cards.
  • Show Date — show or hide the updated date.
  • Show Excerpt — show or hide the excerpt text.
  • Show View Button — show or hide the view button on cards.

Select Save Display Settings to apply your changes.

Each lesson records which partners have viewed it and who has completed it, so you can see how partners are progressing. On a lesson, the engagement history shows each partner organization along with how many of its users have viewed the lesson, whether they’ve completed it, and when they last viewed it — and you can drill in to see individual users.

Check the course’s partner groups. A partner only sees a course if they belong to a partner group assigned to it. If they’re not in an assigned group, the course won’t appear for them.

What’s the difference between a course and a resource category?

Section titled “What’s the difference between a course and a resource category?”

Both organize posts and control access through partner groups. A course adds ordered lessons, a course player, and completion tracking — it’s built for training partners work through. A resource category is a browse-and-download library with no ordering or completion. The same piece of content can serve as a lesson in a course and a resource in a category.

Does un-completing a lesson remove a course completion?

Section titled “Does un-completing a lesson remove a course completion?”

No. Once a partner completes every lesson and the course is recorded as completed, that record stands even if they later mark a lesson incomplete.

No. Completion is stored for partners only. As a portal owner you can preview the completion controls, but toggling them doesn’t save anything.
