Opportunities

Opportunities let you send leads and business opportunities to your partners directly inside PartnerPortal. It’s a simple way to hand a prospect to the right partner, keep the conversation in one place, and track what happens next — streamlining collaboration between you and your partner network.

The Opportunities settings screen with the enable toggle and service types

Before you can send opportunities, turn the feature on and define the service types partners will choose from.

  1. Go to Settings under Opportunities in the main menu.

  2. Enable the Opportunities feature.

  3. Define your service types — the options in a dropdown that partners select from. Set these to match your business offerings so they’re meaningful to partners (for example, the kinds of work or products an opportunity relates to).

Once Opportunities is enabled, you can create opportunities, send them to partners, and manage them over time.

The Add Opportunity form with contact, service type, and budget fields

  1. Go to the Opportunities tab in the sidebar and select Add New.

  2. Fill in the opportunity details — contact information, budget, service type, and any additional notes.

  3. Select Save to create the opportunity.

  4. In the Partners section, select Manage to open the partner selection window, then choose the partner (or partners) you want to send the opportunity to.

  5. Select Save to send it. The selected partners are notified and can log in to review and respond.

  • Track status. Monitor the status of sent opportunities in the Opportunities tab — partners update it as they work the opportunity.
  • Communicate. Talk to partners in the opportunity’s Comments section — see Comment with partners below.

The Convert to Lead section on an opportunity's details card

Once a partner is working an opportunity, either of you can turn it into a lead so it moves through your normal lead process: pipeline phases, commissions, payouts and CRM sync.

  • Partners see a Convert to Lead button on the opportunity’s Status card once they have marked it interested, engaged or won. The lead is registered to them, with them as the submitting user.
  • You see a Convert to Lead section in the opportunity’s details card, next to Archive. Choose which assigned partner the lead belongs to; only partners who have not declined the opportunity are offered.

The Convert to Lead dialog with the partner picker, the details carried over, and the lead fields to complete

The dialog shows what is carried over (company, contact, email, phone, website, and budget as the close value when your lead form uses it) and asks only for what an opportunity does not have: the lead’s platform and any required custom lead fields. The requested service type is added to the lead’s notes. The lead is created exactly as if it had been registered on the Register Lead page, so duplicate detection, auto-approve, auto-sync and new-lead notifications all apply.

Each partner can be converted once per opportunity. Afterwards the opportunity shows a Lead created badge, the Convert to Lead section lists a View lead link for that partner, the Comments partner list shows a Lead badge, and a note is added to that partner’s private thread recording who converted it. The lead’s details card shows Opportunity as its origin with a link back. Archived opportunities cannot be converted.

The Comments card on an opportunity, with the partner list and status on the left and the selected private conversation on the right

The Comments section on an opportunity is where you and your partners talk about it. Every partner you send the opportunity to gets their own private thread — a one-on-one conversation that only you and that partner (and their team) can see. Partners never see each other’s comments.

  • Choose who you’re talking to. The list on the left shows every partner on the opportunity, each with their current status. Select a partner to open that private conversation, or select All partners to post a single comment that everyone assigned to the opportunity can see.
  • Know who will see it. Before you post, a banner confirms exactly who will receive the comment — one partner (private) or every partner on the opportunity.
  • Reply to a message. In a private thread you can reply to a specific message; replies group under it and collapse behind an N replies toggle. Comments posted to All partners are announcements and can’t be replied to.
  • Edit or delete a comment. Anyone on your team can edit a comment your team wrote and delete any comment, including a partner’s. Partners can edit and delete their own organization’s comments while the opportunity is open, but never yours. Edited comments show an (edited) mark. Deleting a comment that has replies leaves a “This message was deleted” placeholder so the replies keep their place.
  • Stay up to date. Select Refresh to pull in new replies without reloading the page.

Archiving makes an opportunity inactive and stops all communication, while keeping its history available to you. Use it when you’re no longer working an opportunity with a partner.

  1. Open the opportunity.

  2. Select Archive and confirm.

Deleting removes an opportunity completely. An opportunity must be archived before it can be deleted.

  1. Open the archived opportunity.

  2. Select Delete Opportunity and confirm.
